Tap Water Carafe
3 designs

The Tap Water Decanter is designed by Lotte de Raadt for Vij5, made of unglazed stoneware fired at 1250 ℃. That cools water by evaporation, without a refrigerator. Carafes with beautiful design - three different shapes in terracotta color. Functional and stylish, for private and business. Note: the carafe usually also loses some moisture through the porous bottom. Therefore, do not place the carafe on a surface that is not resistant to water or use a trivet.

Description

Tap Water Carafe by Lotte de Raadt

The Tap Water Carafe is designed by Lotte de Raadt for Vij5 and made of unglazed terracotta in her ceramics studio in Eindhoven. This material has the remarkable property of being able to cool water without using a refrigerator.

Carafe Dune Water, Carafe Surface Water and Carafe Ground Water

With the different shapes of the carafe Lotte de Raadt refers to the origin of Dutch water. The Ground Water Carafe with a long neck refers to water deep from the ground. The low, wide bottle - Surface Water - symbolizes surface water. The third, Dune Water, is the model for the dune water. The stopper clearly refers to the place where the contents are tapped: from the tap of course!

Less plastic and transport

Dutch tap water is top quality drinking water and 2000 times cheaper than bottled water. More importantly, it requires no environmentally polluting plastic bottles or transportation. With the traditionally manufactured Tap Water Carafe, Lotte de Raadt wants to promote the use of tap water

How does the Tap Water Carafe cool?

Rinse the carafe a few times before use. Because the ceramic is not completely waterproof, a small part of the water content filters through the pores of the clay and evaporates as soon as it comes into contact with the outside environment. The evaporation process (from liquid to gas) absorbs heat and thus cools the carafe. This fascinating, ancient process was once used mainly in the Middle East to cool water.
