Description

Sandmarks sand mold Mint Tower or Dom Tower

Not just any sand shape, but one in the shape of the real Mint Tower in Amsterdam or the Dom Tower in Utrecht. from Sandmarks sandbox toys. No less than 37/40 cm high. And to get the tower out of shape, the sand shape consists of 3 parts, which fit together perfectly. All Sandmarks are made with a 3D printer from PLA, a plastic based on corn starch that is 100% organic. Both towesr are also great as a decorative object in the living room or children's room. And with an LED light underneath you can also turn the yellow (translucent) variant into an attractive lamp.

Sandmarks

Sandmarks is a concept by Studio Joost Gijzel from Utrecht, with Joost Gijzel graphic and product designer and photographer as the driving force. The idea for a sand form for the Dom Tower, which he looks out on from his studio, arose while he was playing in the sandbox with his two and three-year-old nephew and niece. They really enjoyed building - and demolishing - towers. Since there weren't many educational toys on the market, he thought, let me make it myself. That's where Sandmarks started.

The Mint Tower

The Mint Tower, also known as The Mint, is officially called the Regulierstoren, formerly part of the Regulierspoort. This city gate was one of the three main gates of Amsterdam's medieval fortifications. The tower got its current name in the Disaster Year 1672, when Amsterdam was temporarily given the right of minting because French troops occupied large parts of the country. After the Regulierspoort went up in flames in 1618, it was decided to rebuild only the west tower. In 1619-1620 it was given an octagonal superstructure and an elegant open lantern designed by Hendrick de Keyser, containing a clockwork with four dials, and in 1668 a carillon by the Hemony brothers. The Mint Tower is 35 meters high.

The Utrecht Dom Tower

Utrecht Dom is a striking Gothic church in the middle of the Dutch city of Utrecht. The church was built in 1254 as a continuation of the Romanesque cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Utrecht and was dedicated to St. Martin. The church has been a Protestant since 1580. The 112.32 meters high Dom Tower, which was built from 1321 to 1382, is the highest church tower in the Netherlands and the tallest building in Utrecht. The fact that one colossal tower was chosen for the construction of the Dom and not a two-tower front as was customary with cathedrals, is probably due to a lack of space: the area on the west side of the Dom was largely already built on. The Dom Tower can be visited: from the spectacular platform at a height of one hundred meters you can enjoy the beautiful view.
