From the house 'Royal Delft'
The Peacock Symphony collection is made by Royal Delft. Their factory 'De Porceleyne Fles' in Delft has been in existence since 1653 and is the only remaining factory from the 17th century where Delft Blue pottery is produced. Today the factory can also be visited as a museum.
Delft blue, typically Dutch?
The origin of the world-famous Delft earthenware dates back to early 1600. In the 17th century, the VOC (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie) ships brought not only spices back from China, but also blue on white decorated porcelain. This porcelain quickly became very popular with the wealthy of that time such as the European royal houses. When the import came to a standstill by a civil war in China, the Dutch pottery manufacturers grabbed their chance and started the imitation of this blue and white decorated porcelain. This was the start of the Dutch production of Delft blue, now known worldwide as a purely Dutch product.
