Artistic cushion cover
The motif of the Cushion Cover White Fair Flowers is inspired by the work "Flower Still Life in Alabaster Vase", painted by Gerard van Spaendonck in 1783. The 18th century Brabant still life specialist with an astonishing eye for detail in the world of flora and fauna. The artwork is part of the collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
Gerard van Spaendonck
Gerard van Spaendonck (Tilburg 1746 - Paris 1822) was a Dutch painter, best known for his flower still lifes. He studied painting in Antwerp, after which he left for Paris. There he was appointed miniature painter at the court of Louis XVI in 1774 at the age of 28 and in 1780 as a professor of flower painting at the Jardin des Plantes. Shortly afterward he was elected a member of the Académie des beaux-arts. He created more than fifty works for the Vélins du Roi, a renowned collection of botanical watercolors, and published Fleurs Dessinées d'après Nature (Flowers Drawn from life), a still highly regarded book in the field of flower painting.
