Niels van Eijk and Miriam van der Lubbe both graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven. Miriam continued her studies at the Sandberg Institute of Amsterdam. As a designer duo, they aim to create an experience that excites, surprises and broadens ones outlook. Their creations can be characterised by the addition of an extra element. An element that means more than it appears at first glance. Many of their works can be found in major museums and galleries around the world. A lot of large projects carry the name of these Dutch designers. Apart from their own label 'Usuals', they also work on commission.

Glass art

In 2012, they designed a series of blown glass lifestyle products for the brand Imperfect Design. In 2011, Van Eijk and Van der Lubbe worked together with glassblowers in Guatemala for their first project for Imperfect Design. Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe chose to use the local crafting techniques and materials from Guatemala as a basis for their designs. This resulted in a series of hand blown vases made of recycled glass, that are currently sold under the name Cantel by reputable retailers and online shops in Europe and abroad.

Productes with a twist

For the brand Usuals, Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe have designed various products with a twist. The series ' Happy toys is made of rough prunings and leaves space the imagination of the child. Making for a sustainable and educational toy that simultaneously serves as a design object. For A Dutch Flower Council campaign, Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe designed the Bloom My Buddy vase, a playful vase for flower arrangements. Also with the small cutting board - featuring lines for accurate cutting - and the Espresso cups 'Golden Dirt' as an homage to imperfection, they were able to add something absolutely 'unusual' to the Usuals collection.
