Delft blue, typically Dutch?
The origin of the world-famous Delft earthenware dates back to the early 1600. In the 17th century, the VOC (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie) ships brought not only spices back from China but also blue-on-white decorated porcelain. This porcelain quickly became very popular with the wealthy of that time such as the European royal houses. When the import came to a standstill by a civil war in China, the Dutch pottery manufacturers grabbed their chance and started imitating this blue and white decorated porcelain. This was the start of the Dutch production of Delft Blue, now known worldwide as a purely Dutch product.
Tante Bella & Tante Jo
Is the apron label of Maan and Suus Ketterings. Inspired by and named after the aunts tante Bella and tante Jo, sisters of their grandmother. They were always busy. In and around the house and in your own vegetable garden – dressed in colorful aprons. They made their own liqueur from walnuts and the cellar was full of preserving bottles with cherries on brandy, stewed pears, and jam. Time seemed to have no grip on the aunts' lifestyle. They did not let the latest whims drive them crazy but held on to an enduring quality. That quality of life, that imperturbable adherence to what is good, has strongly inspired Maan and Suus to translate this into a collection of contemporary aprons.
