The Westertoren (completed 1638) is the highest church tower in Amsterdam with a height of 85 meters (87 meters including the rooster). It stands about 85 centimeters off the plumb and is one of the most famous landmarks of the capital. The Westertoren is by far the most sung about and described church tower in Amsterdam, nicknamed 'de Lange Jan', 'de Ouwe Wester', or 'the Pearl of the Jordaan'. The tower was designed by city architect Hendrick de Keyser (1565-1621). De Keyser died a year after construction started. The church and tower were then further completed under the direction of his son, city stonemason and master builder Pieter de Keyser, and city mason Cornelis Dankersz de Rij. The Westertoren has 3 loud bells, 2 chimes, and 50 carillon bells. The first loud bell (1686) is the largest, weighs 3137 kilograms, has a diameter of 164 centimeters, and has a striking tone B. On top of the Westertoren is the imperial crown after the example of the crown of Emperor Rudolf II (1552-1612). In 1489 Maximilian I granted the city of Amsterdam the right to wear the imperial crown over its coat of arms.
Mandy and Manon Snel from Utrecht focus on handmade candles from special towers and objects. That started with the Domtoren candle conceived, designed, and produced by their uncle Ruud Snel in Ruud's Waskit. After his death, Mandy and Manon renamed the Waskit as Snellies Waskit and expanded the range with more towers and objects.
