Candle Amsterdammertje red-brown
Nice that you choose the candle of the Amsterdammertje, handmade after the model of the Amsterdam post, and provided with the three characteristic Andreas crosses. Each candle is packed in its own sustainable kraft gift box. Snellies Waskit makes the candles of the Amsterdammertje in the colors sand, red-brown, anthracite, and antique green. A unique gift with its own story.
The Amsterdammertje
Originally the Amsterdammertje was a small cannon barrel upside down in the ground, which served to prevent damage to houses by horses and wagons. The first Amsterdammers appeared in the streets of Amsterdam in the 18th century, with the three Andreas crosses of the city's coat of arms, from which the post takes its name. After WWII, the posts were mainly used to prevent unwanted parking of cars. From the 1970s onwards they were no longer made of 70 kg cast iron but 20 kg sheet steel. They are 1.06 meters long, 75 centimeters of which protrude above the sidewalk. Amsterdam had about 100,000 Amsterdammertjes in 1984, which fell to below 40,000 in 2003 due to other street design.
